I call this painting "Remnant" to encapsulate a feeling that I have every time I see an old barn in the many valleys or "hollers" of East Tennessee. It calls to mind a way of life that has largely disappeared, that of the farmer and family that worked the land in these mountain valleys of Appalachia. Here, in this beautiful green meadow with the background of the mountains in early Spring, stands the last remaining remnant of their home. So peaceful and, in its dilapidated state, so meaningful. Oh, if the walls of this old barn could only talk. I can imagine the stories it would tell of the people who used it in their daily lives.
