Artist's Description

This is a yellow trillium, one of the first to bloom in the Smoky Mountains. It is also one of the largest of the Spring flowers, and is distinguished by it's yellow flower and large variegated green leaves. I have spent much time in the Park enjoying the bounty of these stunning forest blooms. Loosely using an analogous color scheme, I painted the background using pinks, purples, and teal blue in a dreamy yet non obtrusive manner. The trees are painted using soft edges and subdued colors of dark brown to a muted gold. They provide interest but support the main feature. The ground cover is slanted to give movement to the piece and also indicate the the sunlit forest floor where you will see other yellow trillium in the background. At the foot of the featured bloom, I painted the typical green plants that I see along hiking trail in Smoky Mountain National Park.

They all have their own story and I derive great satisfaction from rendering their special characteristics, which are always...
